UNDP and FlockAI Strengthen Partnership for Digital Innovation in Dominican Republic

Privacy-focused artificial intelligence solution provider FlockAI and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced on the 18th that they have strengthened their partnership to promote digital innovation in the public sector of the Dominican Republic based on a pilot project conducted this year. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding aligned with UNDP's Strategic Plan (2026-2029), which aims to pursue prosperity for all through climate action, gender equality, and leveraging new technologies for public services and data-driven solutions.

FlockAI led the second phase of the 'SDG Blockchain Accelerator' initiative, part of UNDP's Altfin Lab team, successfully in the Caribbean, Liberia, Rwanda, and Latin America. The company is preparing for its third phase, having visited the Dominican Republic in May to advance a project called 'Crop Insurance for Smallholder Farmers,' which combines AI-based risk assessment with blockchain-powered instant payment systems. This service, previously inaccessible to small-scale farmers, was developed through direct engagement with local women farmers.

The initiative represents a key application of FlockAI's privacy-preserving AI and blockchain technology that avoids exposing source data or sensitive information externally. The Dominican Republic has seen rapid digital transformation in recent years, with internet penetration reaching 91% of the population. While this presents unprecedented opportunities for public sector innovation, strong data privacy standards and ethical governance frameworks are essential to ensure equitable benefits for all citizens. This partnership aims to build human-centered privacy infrastructure to address such gaps.

The agreement, signed on September 4, 2026, will see FlockAI and the UNDP Dominican Republic country office collaborate in knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and inter-institutional learning. These efforts support UNDP's National Programme Document (2023-2027) and Strategic Plan (2026-2029), focusing on strengthening inclusive digital systems, supporting gender-responsive social protection frameworks, and advancing climate and environmental sustainability.
