US Coast Guard and FBI Investigate Two Tankers Suspected of Cyberattack

Two oil tankers heading toward the Gulf of Mexico were reportedly attacked by a cyberattack near the Strait of Gibraltar. The US Coast Guard and FBI subsequently boarded the vessels upon their arrival in the Gulf of Mexico for investigation. Bloomberg reported that the Coast Guard boarded one foreign-flagged tanker on August 21, while the FBI boarded the second vessel on August 24. US authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators, and the Coast Guard stated there have been no reports of operational disruptions, crew safety issues, or environmental damage.
