U.S. Military Removes Minefield in Hormuz Strait, Opening Trade Route

The U.S. military announced it had cleared a minefield installed on the international shipping route through the Hormuz Strait. The U.S. Central Command explained that the passage is now open to international vessels. The command stated that on August 28, Navy divers, special forces, and air assets from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps participated in the mine-clearing operation. The U.S. military had been working since April to remove mines attributed to Iran's Revolutionary Guard. However, it remains unclear whether commercial shipping through the strait has fully returned to pre-conflict levels.
