U.S. new unemployment claims for the week totaled 196,000, according to the Labor Department on Thursday (local time). This marked a significant drop below the market forecast of 207,000, falling short by 11,000 claims. Compared to the previous week's revised figure of 206,000, this represents a decrease of 10,000 claims.

Continuing unemployment claims for the second consecutive week stood at 1,730,000, down from the previous week's revised figure of 1,769,000 and below the market forecast of 1,780,000 by 5,000 claims.
