Virtual Asset Tax Delay Petition Falls Short of 50,000 Signatures

A petition submitted to the National Assembly requesting a two-year postponement of virtual asset taxation has not yet met the 50,000-signature threshold required for consideration by the relevant committee. As of September 11, public records show 43,360 supporters. The National Assembly's People's Petition system requires over 50,000 signatures to be referred to a standing committee. The petition was submitted on August 17 with a deadline for signatures set at September 20. Coinness reported on September 1 that the petition had reached 48% of the 50,000 target. Virtual asset income taxation is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. The National Assembly Budget Office explained in a report that the tax implementation date was postponed from 2024 to January 1, 2027, following legislative amendments. Recent claims suggesting the petition had surpassed 50,000 signatures have been contradicted by the latest public data showing it remains below the threshold.
