Warren Senator Opposes Current Clarity Bill but Pushes for New Crypto Legislation

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat) has stated that while she does not oppose the current version of the Clarity Bill, she will continue to push for virtual asset legislation, according to The Block. Warren described the Clarity Act as Washington's 'first real opportunity for virtual asset regulation,' but emphasized that any new bill must include regulations on public officials' cryptocurrency investments and provisions for national security and consumer protection. She also called for strengthening measures to block illicit fund and terrorism financing.
The Senate failed to reach the 60-vote threshold in a procedural vote on the Clarity Bill, with a 49-50 split, The Block reported. If Democrats regain control of the Senate in November's midterm elections, Warren could become Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and lead efforts with bipartisan support and industry stakeholders to craft new legislation.
