World Launches 'World Money' Financial Super App in Over 150 Countries with Varying Features

Blockchain project World has launched its self-custody financial app 'World Money' in over 150 countries. The app combines stablecoins, global payments, virtual accounts, trading, and yield programs into one platform, though available features vary by country due to regulatory and infrastructure differences.

According to blockchain media The Defiant, World Money allows users of the existing World and World ID apps to seamlessly transfer their authentication details. It supports eight currencies and offers features like user-based transfers using World usernames, portfolio tracking, and price alerts.

The app includes a mini-app ecosystem featuring services such as Calci, Credit, and Mopo, with the Mopo-based yield program 'Earn' also available. However, support for these features varies by country, and some services operate under third-party terms.

Virtual accounts are a key feature. In the U.S., Riddle Bank receives incoming transfers before bridging them into USDC for deposit into users' World Chain-based wallets. While payroll and employer deposits are supported, peer-to-peer bank transfers are not permitted.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, region-specific virtual accounts are provided. Ripio offers local currency conversion to digital assets in Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico, though it does not support payroll or employer deposits and requires customer verification during account setup.

Peer-to-peer transfers use World usernames within supported countries, but World clarifies this feature does not replace traditional peer bank transfers. Yield programs are based on on-chain lending protocols, allowing users to allocate WLD, USDC, wrapped Ether, and wrapped Bitcoin into selected on-chain lending programs via Mopo. Returns vary and may face delayed withdrawals due to on-chain liquidity or protocol conditions.

World warns of smart contract and market risks, noting displayed interest rates and rewards can change. World ID authenticated users receive promotional benefits for initial deposits of 1000 WLD and 1000 USDC, though these terms may vary.

As a self-custody service, account management responsibility falls on users. World cannot access or reset passwords or passkeys, making recovery difficult if devices are lost without backup login methods.

World Money is provided by Tools for Humanity, not a bank. Digital assets and stablecoins within the app are not government-backed, and users risk principal loss in digital asset activities including yield programs.
