X (Twitter) Connects to Coinbase and Kraken for Crypto Trading

X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a feature enabling U.S. users to connect their accounts with stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency trading platforms directly from the app. By clicking on supported cashtags like $BTC or $TSLA in posts, users can view price charts and related content before being directed to partner financial services via a new 'Trade' button.
Orders are not executed within X; instead, users are redirected to partner apps or websites where they log in with existing accounts or create new ones. X does not handle order execution, payment processing, or asset storage. Partner platforms include Interactive Brokers, Moomoo for stocks and ETFs, and Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini for cryptocurrencies.
While the program is currently limited to U.S. users, it builds on X's April rollout of cashtag functionality that displayed real-time prices and charts. The update extends from market information access to direct trading pathways. Mridul Singhai, X's Product Engineering Lead, stated the feature aims to 'close the gap between ticker symbols on the timeline and actual markets,' further solidifying X's financial platform strategy.
