XRP Price Rises as Open Interest Declines Amid Mixed Market Signals

XRP has surged nearly 36% from its August low, reaching $1.37 on September 12 compared to $1.00 on August 18, even as open interest on key exchanges declined.
According to The Crypto Basic, Binance saw liquidity turnover reach $4.6 billion, while both Binance and Bybit reported falling open interest. Analyst Amr Taher noted Bybit's XRP open interest dropped from +61 million XRP on August 18 to -37.5 million XRP by September 12, a decrease of about 98.5 million XRP over 25 days.
Binance also saw its XRP open interest fall to approximately -53 million XRP as of September 15, down from around -39 million XRP on July 10. During this period, XRP traded near $1.42, up about 42% from August's $1.00 level.
While liquidity turnover improved to a six-month high of $4.6 billion on Binance with a liquidity index reaching 0.0675, analysts caution that declining open interest alone does not indicate market direction as it could reflect either long or short liquidations. Similarly, increased liquidity turnover includes both buying and selling activity without indicating capital flow direction.
Currently, XRP shows conflicting signals: price remains above August levels with Binance's liquidity at a six-month high, yet major exchanges' open interest is rapidly decreasing. Analysts suggest the market is waiting to see if recent gains will continue through increased spot trading or revert to higher derivatives positions.
