Zcash Labs to Support Ledger Integration with Ironwood Pool for $80,000

Zcash Labs has reported that it will provide $80,000 (approximately 18 million won) in support for integrating ZEC’s Ironwood pool into Ledger’s hardware wallets. Wu Blockchain reported on June 16 that Zcash Labs and Ledger have entered a support agreement, stating that once integrated, Zcash holders can directly manage their Ironwood pool assets through Ledger hardware wallets.

Ironwood is the new protection pool for Zcash. According to official Zcash data, Ironwood activated on mainnet on July 28 alongside the NU6.3 upgrade, transitioning from the existing Orchard pool which no longer accepts new activity. Funds remaining in the Orchard pool must be migrated to Ironwood.

Zcash’s decision to restrict new funds into Orchard and introduce Ironwood relates to supply verification and protection pool transition issues. The Ironwood transition affects not only asset storage but also wallet development, as Zcash Foundation has instructed that NU6.3 supporting software must handle the new transaction format and Ironwood pool.

Tachyon Project announced it is conducting ledger-level format validation for Ironwood’s supply verification. This ensures synchronization engines in wallets support the new structure. Ledger stated in its June development update that it completed synchronization work to support Zcash protection transactions, adjusting existing Orchard transfer functions for Ironwood compatibility.

However, Ledger clarified that the activation timeline for Ironwood aligns with ecosystem goals but does not indicate a release date for Ledger products, and no specific deployment schedule has been confirmed. While Ledger’s official guidance states that Zcash can be managed in Ledger Wallet, details on the actual scope of Ironwood-based protection transaction support and terms of the $80,000 agreement remain undisclosed.

Although Ironwood transaction bundles are visible in Ledger’s code repository, this only confirms the existence of technical components and does not indicate completed user-facing integration. The core focus is Zcash’s development direction to connect its new protection pool with hardware wallets. Once integrated, Zcash holders will be able to manage assets in the new pool through hardware wallets.

Earlier, Zodl released tools for migrating Orchard pool funds to Ironwood and a new synchronization engine. This shows that Zcash’s Ironwood transition extends beyond network upgrades into wallet and user support features. In the Zcash ecosystem, protection pools are key technical components handling transaction information and asset storage methods. A pool change requires users to verify compatible wallets and trading capabilities separately.

While the reported support amount is $80,000, Ledger’s published progress materials do not specify this figure. Whether funds will be paid out, in what amount, and when Ironwood-based services will actually launch remain pending further announcements.
