Zcash X Mentions Surge 6.8x Amid NU7 Vote Support

Zcash (ZEC) related X mentions surged 6.8 times higher than usual, coinciding with a sharp price increase in mid-September. However, it remains unclear whether this social media buzz translated into actual user growth or spot buying activity.
Santiment data and AMBCrypto reported that Zcash-related X mentions reached their highest level in a month on September 17, rising to 6.8 times the normal rate—compared to a 1.7x increase on other platforms. The share of total Zcash conversations on X jumped from 59% to 85% within a day.
Santiment noted that much of the discussion followed repetitive patterns, suggesting automated activity or non-organic engagement. The price rose 20.36% from $1,110.50 (KRW 1,533,600) on September 15 to $1,336.55 (KRW 1,845,800) the next day, reaching $1,467.20 (KRW 2,026,200) on September 17 before settling at $1,453.64 (KRW 200,700) by September 18.
The NU7 network upgrade vote also gained attention. Zcash Labs set voting eligibility based on block 3,459,350 of the Ironwood pool, with voting closing on September 14. Approximately 2.4 million ZEC participated in the vote, representing about 66% of eligible supply (3.6 million ZEC). On a participation basis, 99.9% supported reducing block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while 98.9% favored maintaining Bitcoin-style halving schedules instead of gradual issuance.
On the NSM fee redistribution mechanism, 96.6% chose February 2031 as the start date. This aligns with previous reports from Tokenpost that the same proposals received 99.9% and 98.9% support respectively. The vote was part of a process to determine which features would be included in NU7, though results do not immediately trigger network changes.
Development teams have set November 5 as a target for NU7 activation, but the timeline may change pending code completion, testnet deployment, and final activation decisions. Key focus areas include faster transaction processing via reduced block time (25 seconds) and maintaining existing emission schedules through halving adjustments.
The NSM mechanism involves redistributing network fees, with February 2031 chosen as the start date for implementation. Grayscale highlighted Zcash as a leading privacy-focused blockchain in its report, noting that Zcash allows users to choose between transparent and shielded transactions where sender, receiver, and amount remain hidden.
Grayscale also analyzed how stablecoins and AI-based monitoring technologies could increase interest in financial privacy. However, this assessment does not guarantee price appreciation. Recent price gains have been accompanied by increased social media mentions, NU7 voting activity, and renewed focus on privacy narratives, though analysts stress that social media engagement alone doesn't confirm sustained buying pressure or user adoption.
