ZEC Developers Plan NU7 Upgrade to Reduce Block Time to 25 Seconds by November 5

Zcash (ZEC) development team announced that it plans to apply the NU7 upgrade, which reduces block creation time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, to the mainnet on November 5 (local time), according to CoinDesk. The NU7 update includes a 'network sustainability mechanism' that will defer paying approximately 60% of transaction fees to miners immediately, instead accumulating them and distributing as block rewards starting February 2031. Block generation frequency will increase threefold while reducing per-block rewards by one-third, extending the halving interval from 168 million blocks to 504 million blocks to maintain long-term ZEC issuance roughly unchanged. November 5 is a target date, not yet confirmed; developers plan to finalize implementation and activation block height on October 20.
